Progeny Film Festival was created in 2003 to showcase local student films. Since then, it has been traditionally held at the Lyric during the month of April. In 2006, the festival was included in the ArtsFusion festival, a week long arts festival in downtown Blacksburg. The festival was cancelled in 2007 after the events of April 16. Last year's festival screened 14 films and awarded over $1000 in prizes. The board hopes to maintain the traditions of the festival that promote the local and student filmmaking community.
